How to Reset Canon IP 1980 Printer

  1. Make sure the printer driver is installed on your PC or laptop

    • Press and hold the power button on the printer
    • The power button is still pressed, reconnect the power cable (the green light will light up)

  5. Before running this general service tool program, make sure:
    • If using Windows XP, make sure the computer / laptop screen resolution must be 1024 × 768
    • If using Windows 7 or later, set the General Service tool compatibility file to Windows XP SP2
  6. Run GeneralTool.exe


  7. The USB port will automatically be detected by the program, if it is not detected, please select the USB port.
  8. Check Cleaning and Eeprom Clear
  9. Click the Main button then click the Platen button
  10. Click the Quit button to exit the program
  11. Turn off the printer by pressing the power button on the printer
  12. Unplug the power cord
  13. Reconnect the power cord then turn on the printer again by pressing the power button
